Flyers who want their phone suspended at eye level while the tray is down
Why we recommend it
The Flight Flap is the pick when packed size and tablet support beat eye-level mounting; it is flatter and cheaper than the Perilogics and far simpler than the hammock or AirFly.

Why it is our Best Value
Minimalist packers who refuse to carry anything with hinges, clamps or weight, along with tablet users who need a stand wider than a phone clamp, will get the most out of the Flight Flap Phone Holder. It is also a smart pick for commuters who ride trains and buses between flights.
It is the Best Value flight hack because it is light, almost completely flat and very cheap, as Travel + Leisure noted when it featured the product. The flight flap phone holder is a stiff folding panel with a lip that holds a device at a viewing angle on a flat surface, and a second position that lets it hang against the seatback pocket. There are no moving parts to break and nothing to adjust beyond the fold. It slips into a passport sleeve or laptop pocket and you forget it is there.
On board, you fold it open on the tray table, lean your phone or small tablet against it and press play. On a short regional jet with a tiny tray, you hang it in the seatback pocket instead. At the hotel it props the tablet up for a video call, and on the train home it does the same on your lap. Because it is so thin, it is the one flight hack that never gets left behind to save space.
The drawback is that it needs a surface or pocket, so when the tray is down for a meal your screen is competing with your food, and the hanging position depends on the seatback pocket design. Airlines that restrict accessories on seats can also object to the hanging mode, though a stand resting on your own tray is rarely a problem. Travelers who want a phone held at eye level above the tray should choose the Perilogics mount instead; everyone else can start with the flight flap phone holder.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers to what travelers ask most about flight flap phone holder.
Does the Flight Flap hold a full-size tablet?
It is designed for phones and smaller tablets, and larger tablets can be top-heavy at steep angles. Set the device at a lower angle on a stable tray and it holds. Check the Amazon listing for the current supported device sizes.
How does the Flight Flap attach to the airplane seat?
It does not clamp or hook. In hanging mode it rests inside the seatback pocket with the device leaning against it, and in stand mode it sits on the tray table. That makes it one of the least likely accessories to draw a comment from crew.
Is the Flight Flap sturdy enough for turbulence?
On a flat tray it holds through normal bumps, but a heavy phone in a thick case can tip during stronger turbulence. Lay the device down when the seatbelt sign comes on, just as you would with a drink.
